Bastrop, La.—Drax Biomass, one of the largest employers in Morehouse Parish, today donated $10,000 to Bastrop-based Care and Hope Ministry to assist victims of the recent flooding.
The funds will support Care and Hope Ministry’s ongoing relief efforts, which include providing shelter to displaced residents in the First Baptist Church’s gym, offering free clothes and household items at the Ministry’s thrift store, and serving free food and water through the Ministry’s food pantry.
“We depend on the generosity of individuals and the business community to sustain our operations,” said Pam Walker, Executive Director of Care and Hope Ministry. “With the support of Drax Biomass and other donors, we’re able to deliver aid to those hardest hit by the flooding.”
Parish residents in need of temporary shelter should visit First Baptist Church at 620 East Madison Avenue in downtown Bastrop. Residents in need of food, water, clothing or other items should visit the Care and Hope Ministry Thrift Store and Food Pantry at 2038 East Madison Ave. in the Pines Shopping Center. Donations are also welcome at both locations.
“This is a difficult time for our employees and their families, but we know there are others who are far worse off,” said Gavin Black, plant manager for Drax Biomass’s Morehouse Bioenergy facility in Beekman. “Our community is fortunate to have the support of Care and Hope Ministry, and I’m hopeful this donation will extend the reach of that support.”
About Care and Hope Ministry
Founded in 2010, Care and Hope Ministry is dedicated to meeting the needs of hurting people in our community. The Ministry distributes between 18,000-22,000 pounds of food each month to over 500 families who have qualified based on their limited income. The Ministry also resells clothing, furniture and household goods through its thrift store, with the sales revenue used to purchase food for distribution and provide free clothing and household goods to persons in crisis. Care and Hope Ministry is supported by the Morehouse Baptist Association and other area churches through regular financial gifts, volunteer services and donations to the thrift store and food bank. The Ministry is proud to serve as a Red Cross referral partner for victims of house fires and other tragedies. For information, contact the Thrift Store at 318-2393484. Together, we are making Bastrop and Morehouse Parish a better community by loving our neighbor and giving a hand up, not a hand-out.
