Collinston, Louisiana
The Village of Collinston is home to many attractions
and economic pursuits, some of which have attained national acclaim.
There's a 37 acre site at Collinston called "Kalorama,"
which was the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Reilly, who
manufactured and distributed Luzianne Coffee and Tea. Luzianne
Coffee and Tea are still being produced, as well as Blue Plate
products, and several other teas and specialty products.
The property at Kalorama remains for the most part, untouched and provides
an excellent opportunity to explore wildlife in its natural
habitat. Birdwatchers, botanists, and nature enthusiasts may
visit by appointment.
Farming is the
prevalent industry providing an agricultural backdrop of row crops and open space
that enhance the
charm of the Collinston area.
The Collinston Museum will resume
opening each Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and other tours
in the area can be arranged by calling 318-874-2266 during museum hours
or by calling Collinston City Hall at 318-874-2631. The museum
exhibits highlight the rich history of the area and include railroad
related items. The original jail cell has been preserved in the
building.
